Company fined £800k after exploiting safety regulation
December 14th, 2017 ByA supplier to the aerospace trade from Durham has been fined after an employee suffered serious leg injuries. The employee fell into the path of a working machine and became trapped. The ordeal resulted in two broken ankles and skin grafts to both legs.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) into the incident, found that the company had failed to prevent access to dangerous parts of machinery. The company pleaded guilty to breaching the safety regulation and was fined £800,000 and ordered to pay costs of £5,119.
Wayne Williams, an HSE inspector, said: “This injury could have been easily prevented and the risk should have been identified.
